Students Shielded from Heat with Umbrella Distribution
Hailakandi, June 23, 2025: Offering respite from the scorching heatwave, the Guwahati-based Progressive Peoples Foundation (PPF) distributed 50 umbrellas to economically disadvantaged students across five schools in Hailakandi district on Monday. With schools operating morning sessions to counter soaring temperatures, this initiative provides essential protection to students braving harsh weather.
The distribution reached students at Jamira HS School, Sahabad ME School, Choudhury Para ME School, Khajurapara LP School, and Telichara LP School. At Khajurapara LP School alone, 35 umbrellas were gi
ven to current students and pass-out students now studying at Baruncherra Tapashil High School. Unable to afford daily transport, these students walk approximately 8 kilometers from their village to school each day.
The ceremony was attended by Khajurapara LP School’s head teacher, Gulzar Hussain Choudhury, Sukhomoy R
eang, President of the School Management Committee (SMC), Rudojoy Reang, President of the Local Youth Bru Association, and parents and youths from Khajura Tribal Village. Notably, PPF previously aided this village in 2023 with a winter clothing drive that supported 120 children.
PPF launched its 2025 campaign earlier in June by distributing 26 umbrellas at Jamira HS School. For three consecutive years, the foundation has sustained its umbrella distribution program across Assam, refle
cting its commitment to student welfare.
PPF extended heartfelt thanks to individuals from various professions for donating umbrellas, solar lamps, tiffin boxes, and other essentials, which have been pivotal in sustaining these efforts.
Urging PMG members and the public to donate at least one umbrella each, PPF highlighted that such small acts could collectively benefit thousands of students. Dedicated to societal upliftment, the foundation continues to seek innovative, need-based initiatives to address critical community needs.
